Part 1 of 2
Illustrator and graphic designer Artist Eero Lampinen combines painting and digital techniques for his illustrations of boyhood adventures. Lampinen e studies graphic design at the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture, and he undoubtedly offers a breath of fresh air on the Finnish illustrating scene. Eero spent his childhood days in Belgium and he is interested in designing for print, for comics, and for screen-printing methods.
Recently he has designed stage sets for the theatre, among other work. Eero mostly uses water colors, brushes and ink, which he likes to combine with digital graphics. His characters are inspired by vintage children’s books, pop culture and the absurdities of everyday living.
Drawn with a quirky, exaggerated style and a pastel color palette, his works have an instant visual appeal. Lampinen is from Helskinki, Finland and splits his time between personal and editorial work. No matter the project, he approaches it through his distinct style. His work is marked by a youthful sense of exploration and often pictures young men navigating disorienting, dreamlike settings that evoke a coming-of-age narrative.
